Resolution Introduced Condemning the Candidacy of Sonya Jones

At the Fort Bend County Democratic Party’s March monthly meeting, eleven precinct chairs introduced a resolution denouncing Sonya Jones’s conduct and her candidacy.

Jones, the Fort Bend County Clerk candidate faces Maria T. Jackson, a longtime Harris County state court judge, in the May runoff. The winner will go on to face Republican Tamara McFarland in the November general election.

Discussion was held during the Monday meeting where no attendee was in counter argument to the resolution. Precinct chairs introduced the resolution and handed out documentation detailing Sonya Jones social media posts.

The resolution claims Jones’s transition to the Democratic Party appears purely opportunistic, that she has used race-baiting tactics on social media, that she has justified right-wing Republican stances, and that Jones has never voted in a Democratic primary but has voted three times in Republican primaries.

The resolution was not official Fort Bend County Democratic Party CEC business and per Chairwoman Jennifer Cantu the resolution was not an item of business but rather a matter taken up to facilitate discussion.
